Book Review: "Since You’ve Been Gone" by Morgan Matson

Emily doesn’t know where her best friend Sloane is.  She and Sloane have been at each others side constantly pretty much from the moment they met two years ago….  and now Sloane’s gone.  No texts, no calls, nothing.  Is she and her family on vacation?  Emily has no idea.  This was going to be the best summer break ever too…. but now what is Emily going to do? A letter arrives for Emily and it is from Sloane.  It doesn’t say where she is or when (if) she’s coming back…  instead it is a list of things Emily must do this summer.  Some things look harmless… others on the other hand – does Sloane really expect her to go skinny dipping?

As the summer (and the list) progresses, Emily starts hanging out with Frank Porter – just as friends considering that he has been in a relationship since forever.  This leads to a couple other people, and before Emily realizes it, she has a new group of friends all determined to help her finish the list.  But will it bring back Sloane?

So, seriously, I have a major author crush on Morgan Matson.  She just doesn’t do wrong!  I’ve loved her previous books (Amy & Rogers Epic Detour and Second Chance Summer) and this one is amazing as well.  I just loved watching Emily evolve and grow throughout this book.  Matson just writes these characters that are so damn real that I want to go and find them and hang out with them.  Also, they have incredible taste in music.  Frank and Emily share playlists throughout this book and they are fantastic.  So fun!  But the thing is, that even at 400+ pages, I wasn’t done with this story.  I hope that she is planning a sequel or something because I have questions that need to be answered!  Plus, more playlists please!!

Definitely check out this fun book that deals with friendships of all sorts – and maybe share it with your best friend too.
