Book Review: "City of Fallen Angels" by Cassandra Clare

Things pick up again about six weeks after the previous book; Clary is finally getting some actual Shadowhunter training, and love is everywhere – Jace and Clary are enjoying their growing relationship, as are Alec and Magnus, Jocelyn and Luke are planning a wedding, and Simon?  Simon’s having trouble making up his mind.  But, as it is in the Shadowhunter world, trouble is always lurking.  Dead Shadowhunters are being found all around the city, and Jace is suffering from debilitating nightmares.  Simon is also a hot commodity – his differences and his Mark make him valuable as an ally and dangerous as an enemy – so while some are trying to woo him into an alliance, others are trying to kill him.

Whoa.  I read this in less than a day – I couldn’t put it down!  Now, as I have become obsessed with this world and characters, I have looked ahead at book covers and blurbs so I thought I knew what the force was behind all the trouble in this book.  Now while I wasn’t completely wrong, I was wrong enough to keep me surprised.  Clare did a great job of opening up the story again after concluding the major arcs in the previous book.  She also upped the heat level between some of our couples which was fantastic and wow.  I also loved that my favorite characters from Infernal Devices are being discussed more.  Also – my copy had a short story that was so cute:  Jace & Clary’s first kiss from his point of view.

So now I’m almost completely caught up.  I am kicking myself for not picking up the next book while I was at the library yesterday!  Oh well, I’ll get to it and then I just have to wait for the release of the next books!
